I am a senior product manager in Cape Town with 13+ years in product, most of it in B2B SaaS and fintech. I work in domains that are regulated, revenue generating, and have a lot of stakeholders.
Around 2011, I started to learn about this idea of software product management. Having completed a philosophy and psychology degree and blessed with a naturally technical mind, this seemed like the obvious career path.
An amazing early opportunity in my career allowed me to be mentored by an internationally sought-after CPO, and this was my hands on education in product. Later, I studied information systems to close the loop on what I learned and worked on.
I learn new verticals quickly. What you realise is that a lot of the fundamentals across industries are the same, and even the problems encountered have the same patterns that you've seen before. So my value lies in going deep in a hard domain, staying close to real users, and moving a number that matters.
